Leesburg Lions Club hosts 28th annual Luminaria

The Leesburg Lions Club will be hosting the 28th annual Luminaria on Sunday, Dec. 11. This year’s event will begin at 5 p.m. with the lighting of the luminaries.
A home decorating contest is open to all residents in the Fairfield Local School District. The only stipulation is that Lions' luminaries be used as part of the decoration.
If you reside outside the Village of Leesburg and want to enter your home in the contest, call (937) 780-7611 or (937) 780-6140. The judge for the contest will be a District Lion Officer, and the winner will receive a $50 prize. Also, the street block of houses using the most luminary candles will win free luminaria kits for next year.
Holiday festivities in downtown Leesburg will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with tasty treats and good fellowship at the following businesses: American Legion Post 568, Batter Up Bakery, Crossroads Diner, Dollar General, Leesburg Branch Library, Leesburg United Methodist Church, Leesburg Post Office, Saucy Sisters Pizza, Southern Hills Community Bank, and Square One Heating and Cooling.
There will even be a Lions Club “warming station” set up at the old indoor flea market.
Presentation of the King and Queen will be at 5:45 p.m. at the Leesburg Branch Library. The King and Queen will be selected from candidates in the sixth grade at Fairfield Schools who have submitted entries to an essay contest entitled “What Luminaria Means to Me.”
Once again this year, the Lions Club will be providing wagon rides around town to view all the beautiful decorations. The wagons will be running from 5:30-7 p.m. and the pick-up and drop-off point will be Square One Heating and Cooling.
The evening will end with a Community Church Service at the Leesburg Friends Church at 8 p.m.
Luminaria kits will be available on Friday, Dec. 9, from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Square One Heating for $8 per kit (20 candles/20 bags). Bring a container for sand. It is our hope that all residents of Leesburg and Highland will shine the the lights of Luminaria to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas.
