Historical Society celebrates 50th year of Highland House Museum

Charles Sanford “Sandy” Harsha
(1946-2014)
Sandy Harsha spent his life working with his spouse, Deborah, for the good of this community.
Sandy was a 1964 graduate of Hillsboro High School.
He and his wife were driving forces on the Scott House Restoration Committee.
Sandy served for years as a Hillsboro city councilman-at-large, president of council and mayor of Hillsboro from 1996-2003 after being elected in November 1995.
Highlights from this time include development of the Liberty Park site and realization of the Highland County Family YMCA.
He also had served as president of the Hillsboro Cemetery Association and also served on its Board of Directors, had been treasurer for the Highland County Historical Society, was a member of the Scott House Restoration Committee and was a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Charles Harsha, he not only was the next owner of The Harsha Monument Company (one of the oldest family held businesses in the state of Ohio, established in 1845), but he was also active in the the Highland County Historical Society.
His son, Hillsboro city council member Justin Harsha, is now carrying these traditions forward.
Sandy spent much of his time volunteering for the Highland County Historical Society, serving on the Board of Trustees as its treasurer.
