Historical Society celebrates 50th year of Highland House Museum

This is the 46th article in a series from the Highland County Historical Society featuring members of the Highland County Historical Society Hall of Fame and recognizing the 50th anniversary of the Highland House Museum.
Dorothy Hodson
Dorothy Ellis Hodson is honored for her many civic activities and her devotion to Highland County organizations.
Dorothy graduated from Buford High School. She began her civic activities as a member of the original board of Clinton County Senior Citizens.
Later, in Hillsboro, she was the founder and first president of the Hillsboro High School Band Boosters.
As a member of the Little League Mothers Club, she organized and operated the concession stand at Richard Shaffer Park.
Dorothy was both the organizer and the chair of the Highland County Historical Society’s antique shows from 1967-69.
She served as president of the Junior Women’s Club, the DeMolay Mothers Club and the Hillsboro PTO. She served as chair of the Cancer Crusade and Halloween carnivals in New Vienna and Hillsboro.
Many Hillsboro community activities were started by Dorothy, including the Christmas lighting of the courthouse, the City of Hillsboro Christmas lighting, the Highland County Children and Adult Telethon (for which she served 25 years), the Highland County National Day of Prayer, the War Memorial Committee and the Festival of Bells (for which she served from 1985-1995).
Dorothy and her husband, Bob, live in Hillsboro and have been true civic leaders in Highland County.
