Hillsboro Christian Academy posts three wins at ACCS

WEST UNION – Hillsboro Christian Academy's junior varsity basketball team was led by Lance Hainline with 10 points as the Crusaders defeated the Adams County Christian School Eagles, 33-22, Friday, Dec. 2 in West Union.
Hainline was accompanied by Samuel Hoskins who scored eight points, Zair Bourne and Spencer Wyckoff each with four, Logan Bieler with three points, and Tyler Boggess and C.J. Storer each with two points.
The Eagles were led by Austin Nelson with 10 points, followed by Braydon Bosier with seven points, Elijah Willis with three and Olan Truesdell with two.

Lady Crusaders win, 35-12
Hillsboro Christian Academy's varsity basketball team was led by Hope Wyckoff who scored 14 points in their 35-12 victory over the Adams County Christian School Lady Eagles.
Wyckoff was aided by Haley Throckmorton with eight points, Aubrey McIntyre with five, Lydie Tripp with four, and Hannah McIntyre and Rachel Tracy with two points each.
Lizabeth Studs countered Wyckoff's 14 points with five of her own, leading the Lady Eagles. Olivia Daniels, Christian Shivner, and Abby Nelson assissted Studs with two points apiece and Daya Morgan added another three to their point total.
Wyckoff put on a defensive clinic, stealing the ball three times in the first quarter alone.
Aubrey McIntyre led the Lady Crusaders in rebounds for the game, pulling down eight offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter. Hannah McIntyre, Rachel Tracy, and Haley Throckmorton contributed great defense and hustle on both sides of the court.
"I'm so proud of the team," Coach Lynette Tracy said. "These girls play with more guts and heart than any other team. They played with amazing intensity."

Crusaders rally for 48-46 victory
The final game of the night was the boys varsity game between HCA and ACCS. HCA finished the night strong with a close, come-from-behind victory, 48-46.
The Crusaders overcame a 10-point deficit for the win. They were led by Darius Mustard with 23 points.
The Eagles were led by Colton Ball with 14 points.
Other Crusaders to score included: Ben McCellan with 11 points, Dewey Robinson with eight and William Cassner with six.
Adams County Christian School scorers were: Austin Baldwin with 12, Andy Denny with eight, Gabe Shivner and Treber McClaughn, who both scored six points.
The Crusaders got off to a hot start, beginning the first quarter with a 5-0 run. The Eagles fought back to cut the lead down to one. Ball scored six of his 14 points in the first quarter.
Austin Baldwin scored six times in the second quarter for the Eagles. Darius Mustard of HCA had his best quarter of the game in the second as well, scoring 11 of his 23 points.
Ben McCellan defended the Eagles' big men, holding them to only four points. At the halfway point, the game was tied 24-24.
ACCS started the second half strong, starting with an 8-1 run. Cassner and Robertson each scored in the third quarter. HCA scored half of their points in the quarter from the free-throw line.
In the fourth quarter, the two teams exchanged baskets until ACCS pulled ahead with a four-point lead with 1:12 left to play when HCA's Coach Tyler Rhodes called a timeout.
After the timeout, McCellan pulled down an offensive rebound and put the ball back up for two points. Mustard then stole the ball and converted a lay-up to tie the game at 46-46 with less than 30 seconds remaining.
Mustard was fouled with 19.1 seconds remaining. He drained both attempts for the game- winning points. A last-second 3-point attempt by ACCS just missed.
"It was a bit much for the first game of the season," admitted Coach Rhodes. "They played how they're capable. They played the first half nervous.
"We switched to a 2-3 zone, which helped out. Our speed was a major factor."
