Representatives from three local banks met with Festival of the Bells committee president Rick Williams Tuesday morning in honor of their commitment to sponsor the main stage at the 2017 Festival of the Bells.

Williams, who is also the chair of the entertainment committee, said that First State Bank, Merchants National Bank and NCB have agreed to co-sponsor the stage this year, where three major concerts as well as a talent show and other events will be held throughout the festival. This year’s festival is set for July 6-8 in uptown Hillsboro.

First State Bank of Hillsboro manager Andrea White and and commercial/ agricultural loan officer Amy Hamilton; Merchants National Bank president Paul Pence; and NCB Ohio Region co-president Deb Jones and vice president/marketing communications manager Heather Cummings attended the brief press conference.

“We came to these three banks,” Williams said. “They were already sponsors, of course.

“It’s just good that all three competitors, basically, have come together in a situation to support the community. That’s what I really, really like. It’s just great.”

Williams and Hillsboro Ministerial Association spokesperson Brian Robinson previously announced the three artists set to perform at the 2017 Festival of the Bells during a press conference at the Scott House on March 6.

William Michael Morgan will be performing Friday night at the festival, while Brett Young will headline the show on Saturday night. The Christian act for Thursday night will be Danny Gokey.

Another new feature on the main stage this year will be a talent show. Headed by Bev Carroll, the Festival committee is currently seeking local musicians to open the Friday and Saturday night concerts. Performers will be chosen by a panel of judges at auditions scheduled for May 5-6, with finals on May 19-20. Performances will be held at Good News Gathering on U.S. Route 62 south of Hillsboro at 7 p.m.

Those interested in performing must be registered by April 24 by completing a registration form found on the festival website or at the Highland County Visitors Bureau and returned to Bev Carroll, Festival of the Bells, P.O. Box 761, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 along with a $20 registration fee. Checks may be made payable to Festival of the Bells.

“Everyone has always been saying, ‘Why don’t you try to do that?’” Williams said. “We always had other opening acts, but we said ‘OK, we’ll try.’ We’ll see what happens and go from there.”

Those interested in more information may contact Carroll at (937) 725-5208 or (937) 393-5410.

Other events planned for this year’s Festival include a patriotic parade on July 6; a 5K Run/Walk on the morning of July 8; and the annual pet parade, baby parade and tractor pulls, among other special events. Williams said that magician Steve Faris will also be performing magic shows as well as strolling the festival grounds.

“We’re getting ready for a big time in Hillsboro,” Williams said.
