The 83rd Annual Meeting of the Highland Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was held Oct. 15 at Backroom Paradise.

The SWCD presented the 2025 Conservation Poster Contest Awards to the county winners and the county land judging awards, and the Lynchburg-Clay Gold Envirothon team was recognized for their state win and trip to the 2025 National Envirothon.

Carr Farms took home top honors at this year’s Annual meeting by being named the 2025 Cooperator of the Year by the Highland SWCD board of supervisors and staff. Carr Farms was selected based on their determination and willingness to improve soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat throughout their operation, assisting with child and adult education and must of all being influential throughout the history of the Highland Soil and Water Conservation District.

The election of supervisors for the Board of the Highland Soil & Water Conservation District was completed during the 83rd Annual Meeting. There were three candidates running this year for two available positions. The candidates on the ballot were Alan Blackburn, Matthew Gossett and Kyle Mustard.

When the election results were tallied, Alan Blackburn and Kyle Mustard were elected to serve a three-year term on the Highland SWCD Board of Supervisors beginning Jan. 1, 2026. They will join fellow members Dan Chambers, Chris Cox and Jeff Roehm.
