Highland Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual meeting held
The annual meeting of the Highland SWCD was held on Oct. 14 at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro. During the meeting, several awards were presented, a successful silent auction was held and the election of supervisors took place.
Jerry and Mike Christophel of Christophel Farms took home top honors at this year's annual meeting by being named the 2010 Cooperator of the Year by the Highland SWCD supervisors and staff. Christophels were selected due to their excellent cooperation with the Highland SWCD and the various conservation practices installed throughout their operation. Some of the practices installed include: over 9100’ of fence, 3 heavy use areas, 3 access roads, 55 acres of pasture seeding, and 3350’ of grass waterways. The Christophels are providing an outstanding example of how to incorporate conservation practices that will contribute to an environmentally and economically sound farming operation.
The election of Supervisors for the Board of the Highland Soil & Water Conservation District was also held during the Annual Meeting. There were three candidates running this year for two positions available for a three-year term beginning January 2011. The candidates on the ballot were Ronald Caldwell, James Carr and Kyle Mustard. When the election results were tallied James Carr and Kyle Mustard were re-elected for another term. Other members of the Highland SWCD Board of Supervisors include  Jeff Boike, Jeff Duncan and Larry Shannon.
