Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of March 20-26, 2017, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 276 911 calls, answered 161 requests for service, dispatched 128 fire and EMS runs, took 33 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.
On March 20 at 10:13 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic fight at a residence on Carmel Road. The parties involved in the fight left the scene a short time after the call, but were located by deputies on Hizer Road. Samuel H. Holaday, 21, was arrested and charged with one count of domestic violence.
At 8:08 a.m. on March 22, a Rammel Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report a suspicious vehicle parked along the roadway near his residence. A deputy dispatched to investigate the complaint located the vehicle which had accidentally become stuck in a ditch. Assistance was rendered to the motorist, no charges were filed.
A Mad River Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office at 2:36 a.m. on March 23 to report a prowler around her residence. A deputy responded to the scene and checked around the premises. No one was located and the residence was found to be secure.
On March 23 at 3:49 p.m., a Petersburg Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report catching two unidentified males in the act of removing a safe from his home. The suspects dropped the safe and fled upon encountering the homeowner. A red GMC SUV, pulling a trailer, picked up the suspects and headed westbound on Petersburg Road. Citizens are encouraged to keep an eye out for suspicious persons or vehicles and call 911 when witnessing a crime in progress.
