Highland County Sheriff’s Report; high-speed chase ends with arrests

Sept. 11

A deputy on patrol in the 11000 block of state Route 771 observed a silver Dodge Charger without a license plate was sitting stationary in the roadway. As the deputy attempted to turn around and investigate, the driver sped off northbound on state Route 771 at a high rate of speed. The deputy pursued the vehicle which turned on to Bridges Road and eventually on to state Route 138 where speed was determined to reach 100 mph. The vehicle turned northbound on to Cope Road before the deputy terminated the pursuit. 

A short time later, an officer with the Leesburg Police department stopped the vehicle in the 9000 block of Centerfield Road. The driver was identified as Larry D. Nunley, 56, of New Vienna. Nunley was charged with failure to comply, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A passenger, identified as Kristopher W. Bennett, 38, of New Vienna, was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. 

Deputies responded to the 6500 block of McCoppin Mill Road after a report of a domestic disturbance. After investigation, parties refused to cooperate, no visible injuries were observed. Both parties were given a warning, no charges issued.

Sept. 12

A deputy responded to the Highland County Fairgrounds after a report of theft. This incident remains under investigation.

Cody E. Vanlangen, 31, of Hillsboro, OVI.
