Highland County Health Department to receive H1N1 vaccines

The Highland County Health Department is anticipating receiving approximately 300 doses of the Intranasal H1N1 vaccine during the week of October 12.

The first shipment of doses will be given to health care workers with direct patient care and emergency medical personnel.

The Health Department expects to be receiving additional vaccines in the weeks to follow. The priority groups will be immunized first. As vaccines become more readily available, all persons wishing to receive the vaccine can do so.


At this time the priority groups include:
Health care workers
EMS workers
Children six months through 24 years of age
Pregnant women
Persons ages 25 through 64 with any of the underlying health conditions:
• Weakened immune system due to chemotherapy or HIV
• Blood disorder
• Chronic Lung Disease including asthma or COPD
• Diabetes
• Kidney or liver disorder
• Neurological or neuromuscular disorders
• Heart disease
