Health Department offers free tobacco cessation classes
The Highland County Health Department is offering free tobacco cessation classes to Highland County residents. The classes are for individuals, ages 18 and over, who would like to quit using any type of tobacco product: cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, chew, etc. Funding for this program is provided by a grant through the Ohio Department of Health and is administered through the Greene County Combined Health District in Xenia.
The classes are conducted by Anita Stanley. She is a member of Tobacco Free Healthy Communities and a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Her certification in this field was obtained through the Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minnesota.
Classes will begin Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 6:30 p.m. and will continue to be held each Wednesday evening for six consecutive weeks. Classes are being held at the Highland County Board of Health, 1487 North High Street in Hillsboro. Class time is usually about one hour per week.
Free smoking cessation products will be available for those attending the classes: patches, gum and lozenges.
To register in advance for the classes, please contact the Highland County Health Department at 937-393-1941.
