Highland County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Bowen has been suspended for five days, Sheriff Ron Ward reported today.
Bowen, 39, of Hillsboro and Kendi S. Jordan, 26, of Leesburg were charged with disorderly conduct at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, after officers from the police department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to an altercation at the Ole Depot, at 421 N. West St., Hillsboro.
Jordan was employed with Highland County Children Services and her employment was terminated this week, following an executive session meeting that included Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer and Highland County Job and Family Services Director Debbie Robbins.
According to Ward, a Sept. 29 pre-disciplinary hearing was held on Bowen, after which, the five-day suspension was ordered.
"Sgt. Bowen is an 18-year employee with no prior disciplinary actions," Ward said. "The only things in his personnel file are letters of commendation and letters of compliments from citizens."
Ward said the suspension for Bowen is non-paid; however, the officer may use accrued vacation time in lieu of paid compensation.
"With all things considered, with no prior actions and 18 years of service, I felt this was appropriate," Ward said.
Ward said Bowen's suspension will be scheduled on days that can avoid any additional expense to the department.[[In-content Ad]]
