HCP names Chandler as managing editor and editor of online content creation and development

Veteran newspaper editor and reporter Brandy Chandler has been named managing editor and editor of online content creation and development for The Highland County Press.
Chandler is returning to Highland County effective March 1. Previously, Chandler covered local news as a reporter for The Times-Gazette. Most recently, she was the assistant editor at the Wilmington News Journal.
“The Highland County Press staff welcomes Brandy to our team,” publisher Rory Ryan said this week. “We all know Brandy and are very pleased that she’s joining the HCP. More importantly, we hope our readers are pleased. Brandy has a great deal of knowledge and experience in print journalism and in online media. We expect her to share that knowledge and help make us an even better newspaper and online media company.”
Chandler will be working closely with HCP Director of Marketing and Online Media Angela Matticks, particularly on new Web site content.
“With her experience and enthusiasm for community journalism, Brandy will bring another positive dimension to The Highland County Press,” Matticks said. “Having worked with Brandy for a number of years, we aren’t concerned about a ‘transition period,’ either. We know she’ll be ready to contribute immediately.”
Chandler, 28, was a 2009 fellow with the Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism at the John Glenn Institute of Public Affairs at the Ohio State University. The Kiplinger Program is a highly competitive journalism fellowship that focuses on digital media reporting. During her time as a fellow, Chandler focused on how the community fabric was affected in the Highland County area following the massive job losses at the Wilmington Air Park. She has received back-to-back Ohio Associated Press awards for breaking news coverage and has covered stories at the Supreme Court of Ohio, Ohio’s Fourth District Court of Appeals, as well as general and breaking news in the Highland County area, including interviews with the past two governors of Ohio. She covered President George W. Bush during his 2004 campaign in Portsmouth.
Chandler holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Shawnee State University and has completed master’s level coursework in digital media at the Ohio State University.
