Greenfield residents arrested in break-in at Buckeye Hills

Two Greenfield men were arrested Friday following an alleged overnight break-in at the Buckeye Hills Country Club in Southeast Fayette County. Law enforcement agencies from three counties were involved in the location and apprehension of suspects and stolen items. 

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the office received a call at approximately 1:38 a.m. from a neighbor in the area of the country club, located on Limes Road. The call reported a suspicious vehicle with a loud exhaust in the area. 

"The neighbor observed the vehicle a couple of times, the last time traveling with its lights off," said Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth. 

Deputies responded and checked the country club and surrounding area, unable to locate the vehicle. During a check of the business, deputies located fresh tire tracks, consistent with those of a golf cart, on the grass area of the golf course. Deputies also discovered that entry had been made to a walk-in freezer unit, with food and beverage items being taken. Detectives were contacted to respond for processing of the scene. 

At 5:57 a.m. the sheriff's office received a call from a passing motorist on nearby York Road, reporting a small truck pulling a golf cart in the area. The motorist was able to provide additional information, including the direction of travel of the suspect vehicle, which led to the the arrest of the two suspects. The suspects were stopped and detained with assistance from the Greenfield Police Department and the Highland County Sheriff's Office on Lover's Lane in Highland County. Deputies later located and recovered the stolen golf cart, abandoned on York Road near the intersection of Greenfield-Sabina Road. 

Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester said, "Our officers were able to locate and stop the vehicle, and detain the suspects until Fayette County arrived, and they took it from there."

The two suspects arrested were Cecil R. Carter, 46, and Ricky W. Mick, 36, both of Greenfield. 

The investigation, according to the FCSO, led to the recovery of a majority of the stolen items. 

"The investigation led deputies to the location of a large amount of the stolen merchandise in a residence in Ross County," Stanforth said. "The Ross County Sheriff's Office assisted detectives from Fayette County in the recovery of the stolen property. Alert neighbors and a good working relationship between law enforcement agencies led this investigation to a successful conclusion."

Carter and Mick are being held in the Fayette County Jail, charged with felony counts of breaking and entering, pending their initial appearance in Washington C.H. Municipal Court.
