Greenfield man sentenced in 3 separate Highland County drug cases
A Greenfield man was sentenced to six years in prison Friday afternoon after pleading guilty to a combined five charges in three separate cases in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
Steven Willett, 56, was indicted in two recent Highland County grand jury sessions, in December 2023 and February 2024, and again charged via bill of information on a separate count in March 2024.
As previously reported, in December, Willett was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, a third-degree felony; possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony; and aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a third-degree felony.
Willett was again charged in February with three counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a third-degree felony; three counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a third-degree felony; one count of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, a fourth-degree felony; and one count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony.
According to court records, a bill of information was filed March 15 by Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins charging Willett with a third-degree felony count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine.
During the hearing March 15, Willett entered guilty pleas to:
• The third-degree felony counts of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility and aggravated possession of methamphetamine in the December case. It is alleged that on or about July 14, 2023, while Willett was incarcerated at the Greenfield Jail, a police officer found “a small plastic baggie containing a purple powder substance” in Willett’s sock. The substance was later determined to be a fentanyl-related compound.
It is also alleged that in August 2023, a Greenfield police officer found Willett in an alley, allegedly “appearing to be under the influence of something.” The officer allegedly found “two separate baggies” inside Willett’s shorts, which were later determined to contain 3.43 and 3.10 grams of meth, respectively.
• Two third-degree felony counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine in the February case. According to a bill of particulars, it is alleged that on or about March 27, 2023, Willett sold 6.98 grams of meth to a confidential informant (CI) working with the Highland County Task Force. On or about March 27, 2023, Willett allegedly sold 7.05 grams of meth to a CI, with both transactions allegedly occurring in Greenfield.
• The third-degree felony count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine as charged in the bill of information. The bill of information alleged that Willett “did knowingly obtain, possess or use” meth “in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount” on or about Feb. 6, the date of his most recent indictment.
Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Willett to a definite determinate term of 18 months on the conveyance charge, 18 months on the first aggravated possession charge, 12 months on each trafficking count and 12 months on the second aggravated possession charge, for a total of six years in prison. Willett had a total of 49 days of jail time credit.
Willett was also ordered to pay $400 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force.
