Firefighters battle barn fire near Ole Depot

More than a dozen firefighters were on scene for more than 12 hours fighting a barn fire in the 400 block of North West Street, in the lot behind the Old Depot Carryout and Tavern Sunday night.
According to the Highland County Sheriff's Office, a call reporting the fire came in at approximately 9:14 p.m. on May 16.
Firefighters with Hillsboro Fire and Rescue fought the blaze, along with mutual aid from Lynchburg and Leesburg, and Marshall responded for station coverage. Officers with the Hillsboro Police Department also responded to the scene.
HFR Chief Jerry Powell said they cleared the scene around 11 a.m. Monday. The fire remains under investigation, and a cause has not yet been determined.
No major injuries were reported. In addition to the property damage to the barn, which was housing scaffolding and hay, a trailer parked near the structure sustained scorch burns, as did a neighboring house and outbuilding, according to Powell.
