Fire district levy campaign under way

Supporters for the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District levy have kicked off their campaign and are gaining momentum across the community in preparation for the vote on Nov. 3.
The focus of the campaign effort is to pass the 5.5-mil levy so the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District can be established. The fire district will provide residents of the city of Greenfield, Madison Township in Highland County, and Buckskin and Paint Townships in Ross County with fire protection and emergency medical services.
According to Greenfield Life Squad Paramedic Chad Hamilton, “Forming a Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District will combine resources and manpower; making for a more efficient organization able to better serve the residents of multiple jurisdictions.”
The district will be its own public entity. The budget will be managed by the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District Board of Trustees, who are locally elected community members representing each township and the city.  The present Board of Trustees consists of Mike Erskine, representing Buckskin Township; Bill Redenbaugh, representing Greenfield; Dan Mathews, representing Madison Township; and Grant Palmer, representing Paint Township; with Eleanor Snodgrass serving as clerk/fiscal officer.
“The passing of this levy is absolutely critical,” said campaign volunteer and local business owner Greg Garman. “If we lose our paid firefighters, we are not only risking our public and personal safety, we are putting the future of our community at jeopardy.”
Over the next two months, the campaign committee will be hosting local fundraisers to support the fire district levy campaign.
