The Edward Lee McClain High School Alumni Association has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2011 scholarship program.
Alumni Association Scholarship Chairman Dr. Steve Iseman says, “Through the continuing generosity of members of the Edward Lee McClain High School Alumni Association and the Peg Gessner family we are able to continue the two $1,000 scholarships we’ve been offering. This is the 13th year for the alumni association scholarship program. To date, we've given away more than $30,000 in scholarships to students at McClain High School."
All members of the McClain High School graduating class of 2011 who are planning on continuing their education at an accredited institution of higher learning are eligible to enter the competition for the two $1,000 awards.
Entry forms for this year’s scholarship program ave available from the McClain High School guidance office. A short essay must accompany the entry form.
A panel of judges consisting of McClain High School graduates and an English professor from Ohio Northern University will blind-judged the essays and select the winners. The judges will consider style, content and structure.
Entries must be mailed to the McClain Alumni Association, Post Office Box 396, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. All entries must be postmarked by May 6 to be eligible for this year’s awards.
The $1,000 Edward Lee McClain High School Alumni Association Scholarship was established when the alumni association was reorganized in 1998.
At that time members of the group indicated that scholarships for McClain graduates should be a top priority for the association. Contributions for scholarships have been invested with the income each year earmarked for scholarships.
The $1,000 Peg Gessner Alumni Association Scholarship was established in 2002 when the family of McClain graduate Peg Gessner decided that the best way to keep her memory alive and at the same time benefit others was to establish a scholarship fund through the Alumni Association.
Winners of this year’s scholarships will be announced at the McClain High School Awards Assembly in May and recognized at commencement in June.[[In-content Ad]]
