Earley and Hopkins receive State FFA Degree

On May 4 at the 2012 Ohio FFA State Convention, Whitney Earley and Kristy Hopkins of the Hillsboro FFA received the State FFA Degree.

Whitney and Kristy are seniors at Hillsboro High School.

Whitney is the daughter of Rick and Gina Earley of Hillsboro, and Kristy is the daughter of Chris and Jackie Hopkins of Hillsboro.

The State FFA Degree is awarded to member of the Ohio FFA Association that meet the following minimum standards have gross earning in Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) of $3,000 or have worked 1,000 hours
with 200 paid hours and a gross earning of $2,000, completed 35 hours of
community service or 25 hours of community service and 10 hours of home
improvement, and have productively invested $1,000.

Members must also participate in three activities that promote Agricultural Education and the FFA, two different state sanctioned Career Development
Events, demonstrate 10 parliamentary procedure abilities, present a 6 minute
speech on an agricultural topic, been involved in planning chapter activities, and participated in five activities above the chapter level.

Other requirements include 4 school or community activities and a 2.0 GPA
along with a 93% school attendance or a 3.0 gpa.

Whitney Earley served as president of the Hillsboro FFA during this past year. Whitney’s SAEP consisted of market hogs that were exhibited at the Highland County Fair. She has participated in public speaking, parliamentary procedure, soil judging, attended Ohio Leadership Camp, state and national
conventions.

At school, Whitney has been active in National Honor Society, Student Council and as a member of the lady basketball, and softball teams. For community service, she tutored students in math, volunteered at the kindergarten, taught Sunday school and worked at KAMP Dovetail.

Kristy Hopkins served as teporter of the Hillsboro FFA for her senior year. Kristy’s SAEP consisted of market lambs that were shown at the Highland County Fair and the Ohio State Fair. Kristy also worked for Hopkins Mowing.

Her FFA activities included parliamentary procedure, poultry career development event, attending Ohio Leadership Camp, and state and national convention. Kristy’s school activities included choir and girls soccer.

Kristy completed 45 hours of community service through Daily Bread, Angel Food Miistries, and tutoring students at the Hillsboro Christian Academy.
