Wilmington – Dr. Brian Santin of Ohio Vein & Vascular based in Wilmington was recognized by the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) as the Advocate of the Year for 2016.

This is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an individual physician who has gone above and beyond the duty to patients and physicians as an advocate for advancing health care delivery in the state of Ohio.

“I am incredibly humbled by this phenomenal honor” Santin said. “There is a lot to debate in health care and I firmly believe that by advocating and communicating the challenges patients and physicians face locally, at the state level and nationally is not only the right thing to do, it is the most important way we will make progress to provide high-quality health care.”

Santin was heavily involved in the passage of the medical marijuana legislation last year and served at the pleasure of House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) on the House Task Force on Medical Marijuana.

The vascular surgeon also testified before the Ohio House Finance Subcommittee on Health and Human Services in recent years to oppose changes to healthcare delivery to patients who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. Santin also serves as an at-large councilor for the Ohio State Medical Association.

The OSMA is a statewide medical association representing nearly 16,000 Ohio physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, and practice managers. The OSMA held its annual meeting this past weekend in Columbus.
