County begins business retention, expansion meetings

The Highland County Board of Commissioners have completed the county's initial round of business retention and expansion meetings.
During the Wednesday, May 25 board meeting, Commission President Shane Wilkin informed commissioners Tom Horst and Jeff Duncan that he and County Clerk Nicole Oberrecht have met with several local manufacturers.
According to Oberrecht, she and Wilkin recently met with PAS Technologies, Weastec, Hobart, Seal-Tite and Highland Computer Forms.
"We're discussing challenges and opportunities and the resources that are available," Oberrecht said. "We will be visiting businesses in Greenfield, Leesburg and Lynchburg, too."
The county also met recently with Johnson Controls Plant Manager Todd Bruno, Oberrecht said.
On June 2, the county will host a manufacturers' roundtable at Buckeye Hills Country Club near Greenfield.
The objective will be to open communications in an effort to strengthen local manufacturing.

As reported last week, the Leesburg Industrial Park and the Greenfield Industrial Park are now rated among the top 20 sites in the state of Ohio, after working with InSite Consulting LLC of Greer, S.C.
"I appreciate what you are doing," Horst told Oberrecht. "Good job."

• Commissioner Duncan said the county has received additional estimates on new flooring options at the Hi-TEC Center.
"I met with a local vendor for estimates; in fact, I got a new estimate this morning," Duncan said. "There are a couple of different options we'll take a look at and come up with a recommendation."
On a separate project, Horst said he would be in communication with DS2 Architects on the ramp for the Administration Building.
Horst also invited the community to attend one of the various Memorial Day services in the county on Monday, May 30.

Resolutions
Commissioners approved the following resolutions, each by a 3-0 vote:
• An advance from County Advances Out to Fairground Debt Retirement in the amount of $8,000.
• A request from Victim Witness for a budget modification within the Budget from Other to Refund in the amount of $1,700.
• A request from the Engineer for a budget modification within the Engineer Budget from Laborers-Salary to Expenses in the amount of $2,500.
• A request from Probation for additional appropriation to the Pre-Trial Supervision Budget, Operating Expenses in the amount of $370.
• A request from Probation for additional appropriation to the PSI Writing Budget, Operating Expenses in the amount of $231.
• A request from the Engineer to enter into a contract for lease purchase of Kobelco SK85CS from Southeastern Equipment Company.
• A resolution to designate Ohio Means Jobs, Community Action Organization as the lead agency to be responsible for administering the Comprehensive Care Management and Employment Program effective July 1, 2016.
• A request from the Sheriff for additional appropriation to Sheriff, Employee Salaries in the amount of $1,111.65.
• A CCMEP, WIOA agreement.
• A resolution to accept the resignation of recycling coordinator Jennifer Waterman.
