Counter sworn in as county recorder

Greenfield resident Richard Counter was sworn in Monday afternoon as the Highland County Recorder.
Highland County Common Pleas Court Juvenile and Probate Court Judge Kevin Greer administered the oath of office to Counter, and said that he had big shoes to fill in following Ike Hodson in office, but he is sure Counter is up to the task.
"I appreciate it and consider it a privilege," to administer the oath to Counter, Greer said. "I consider you a friend. Highland County is lucky to have so many people willing to serve the county. I understand there were many applicants."
Counter's wife, Lynn, held the Bible as he was sworn in.
"I know you will honor the privilege extended to you," Greer said. "You following in some difficult footsteps of Ike. But I know you are up to the task."
Counter was appointed by the Republican Central Committee on May 10 to replace Hodson as Highland County Recorder. Hodson was appointed by the committee as Highland County Clerk of Courts in April, following the retirement of clerk Paulette Donley.
Held in the basement of the Highland County Administration Building, more than 20 people were in attendance for the swearing-in and reception in honor of Counter.
Counter has more than 30 years of public service to his credit including mayor of Greenfield from 1980-85, and a Greenfield City Council member.
"I look forward to the opportunity to serve the people of Highland County," Counter said. "The people who work in the administration building and the courthouse all work very hard for Highland County."
Counter also swore in deputy recorder Marsha Sonner on Monday.
