Committee selects Richard Counter for county recorder

Former Greenfield mayor and longtime city council member Richard Counter has been selected to serve as Highland County recorder. He will complete the term of former recorder Ike Hodson, who was recently named Highland County clerk of courts.
Counter, who has 30 years of public service to his credit including mayor of Greenfield from 1980-85, was selected to the recorder's position by the Highland County Republican Party Central Committee at its Tuesday night meeting, according to Commissioner Shane Wilkin who serves as vice chairman of the committee.
"I'm very pleased with the decision and I look forward to serving the people of Highland County," Counter told The Highland County Press. "I'm very interested in the political process and in public service and I'm honored to be selected as county recorder."
When asked if he had any immediate changes planned for the recorder's office, Counter replied: "Ike (Hodson) has had the office running like a Swiss watch. I can't anticipate any changes in office hours or personnel. I look forward to working with the staff."
"The Highland County Republican Central Committee wishes to congratulate Mr. Counter on this appointment and wish him well as he accepts this new challenge," Wilkin said.
"The committee is confident that Mr. Counter will more than fulfill the duties of recorder and continue the tradition of excellent public service that Ike Hodson has established in this office."
The committee's selection is pending review by the Highland County Board of Elections and the Ohio Secretary of State's Office, Counter said.
A swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, May 16 in the Highland County Administration Building’s basement conference room.
