Commissioners honor PFC Zachary Gullett

The Highland County Board of Commissioners honored a fallen Hillsboro soldier Wednesday, and encouraged all county residents to honor his memory.
According to the proclamation:
Whereas on May 1, 2007, PFC Zachary R. Gullett died in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, while serving his country with C Company 787 Military Police Battalion, with Multi-National Force-Iraq (MNC-I), and as a member of the 984th MP Company, and
Whereas Gullett was a 2004 graduate of Hillsboro High School, where he participated in marching band, drama, and symphonic choir, his family endeavors to honor his memory by providing the Zachary R. Gullett memorial scholarship that will assist one HHS graduate a year in pursuing a career in law enforcement, and
Whereas a fundraising spaghetti dinner to help support the scholarship will be held Saturday, May 21 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hillsboro VFW Post 9094, and
Whereas Gullett was a proud member of the Highland County Community, the Highland County Board of Commissioners honors PFC Gullett's commitment and dedication to his county, and country through his ultimate sacrifice, May 21, 2011 is hereby proclaimed PFC Zachary R. Gullett Day. The board of commissioners encourages all Highland County residents to remember PFC Gullett's sacrifice, and support his memorial scholarship.
Donations can be made to the scholarship fund at Merchants Bank in Hillsboro.
Gullett's grandmother, Eleanor Helterbrand, said following the proclamation that she was proud to have Zachary as a grandson.
"Zach was a good boy," Helterrand said. ""Whenever I needed him I was always here. He was a wonderful boy."
