Carr, Dickey exemplify the holiday spirit

Atlee Carr, a sophomore standout athlete and honor roll student at Whiteoak High School, has had a good run of luck on the basketball court lately.
Carr, a member of the boys varsity basketball team, had the recent good fortune of making two half-court shots during halftime activities at Whiteoak High School this past December.
Jeff Dickey and The Dickey Group Realty have been a longtime supporter of Whiteoak athletics. Since 2006, The Dickey Group has offered to donate $500 to anyone who makes a half-court shot at any WHS boys or girls home basketball game.
“We can’t say enough about how much support they’ve given us over the years,” said Whiteoak Athletic Director John Combs. “It’s made for an entertaining halftime during our girls and boys basketball games.”
Since 2006, there have been six winners of the half-court shot challenge.
In 2007, Matt Butler won the first-ever half-court shot sponsored by The Dickey Group. Jared Bohl would sink the shot two years later in 2009. Aidan Shannon won the prize in 2015, and Trace Thompson also cashed in during an early December game in 2016.
Carr won a $500 prize the first time on Dec. 12, 2016, when he drained a half-court shot during the halftime festivities of the girls’ game versus Manchester.
Carr won a second time just eight days later when he nailed another half-court shot during halftime of the Dec. 20 game versus Fayetteville. However, Carr made a deal with Jeff Dickey before the shot.
If Carr made the half-court shot, he asked Dickey to donate the $500 to the Whiteoak Athletic Department.
“Atlee is a great young man,” said Combs. “Most kids would want to put that $500 in their pocket, but he chose to give it to our athletic department. And he certainly has a talent for making long-distance shots.”
Whiteoak High School and the Athletic Boosters wanted to thank The Dickey Group for their continued support of Whiteoak athletics.
