Businesses, children invited to attend upcoming "Boo-Fest"

Boo-Fest, sponsored by WSRW AM 1590 and the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association, will be held 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 on the courthouse square and uptown business district. WSRW will be broadcasting throughout the afternoon. The county Beggars Night is 6pm - 8pm, so people can start their night with Boo-Fest. A costume contest will be held this year, conducted by the Hillsboro Junior National Honor Society.  They will register the kids from 5-5:30 p.m. and have some great prizes from area businesses.  Entertainment by Herb Day and his band will start around 6 p.m.  If the weather is bad, the activities will be moved into the Colony Theatre.
Between 2,000 and 3,000 kids attended Boo-Fest last year, so expect a mass of people for the event.  Whether you want to hand out your candy inside or outside of your business is up to you.  If your business is a part of HUBA and is not in the 100 block either direction from the center of town, you are more than welcome to join the group on the courthouse square. Please contact John Barney ahead of time to arrange set-up locations. Organizers suggest that businesses bring a table and information about their business. If you are a business (or politician) and are NOT a member of HUBA, there will be a charge to be a part of the event to set up on the courthouse square.
There are register boxes in some area stores. People may stop by and register for a chance to win two tickets to concerts and events for 12 months. This prize is huge: each time Buckeye Country 105 receives tickets to an event from Nov. 1, 2009 through Oct. 31, 2010, two tickets will be sent to the winner. A list of businesses that have boxes can be found at http://www.buckeyecountry105.com. The boxes will be picked up on the day of the event.
There will also be a big prize available for the merchants participating in Boo-Fest. There will be three judges who will be walking around to determine who is the best when it comes to the "overall look and experience" of the businesses.  The winning business will receive the same as the promotion that listed above: two tickets to concerts, destinations, and venues for 12 months. The winner last year was Details Salon and Day Spa. After talking with them yesterday, they think that they will repeat with ease. Others say that is not going to happen. I guess we will see!
