Boatman resigns from Board of DD
Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities member Gary Boatman has resigned from the board.
Boatman told The Highland County Press on Monday that he submitted his resignation this week because he needed to concentrate on work, and that his responsibilities with the board were beginning to take time away from that.
"It's taking too much time away from work, and that's really all there is to it," Boatman said. "(The board has) been involved in controversy for so many months, and I feel like I needed to step down to concentrate (on work)."
Boatman was appointed by Highland County Juvenile and Probate Court Judge Kevin Greer to the board in 2009 to replace Shane Wilkin after he was elected as Highland County Commissioner. Greer said that he appoints two members to the Board of DD and the commissioners appoint five members.
As of Monday afternoon, Greer said that he had not received official notice of Boatman's resignation. As soon as he receives official notice, he said he will begin the process of making an appointment to fill the remainder of Boatman's term.
Highland County Board of DD President Linda Allen could not be reached for comment Monday.
