Board of Realtors welcome Steve Casper; discuss new survey standards

Steve Casper of Cutler Real Estate was the guest speaker at the Nov. 17 luncheon meeting of the Highland County Board of Realtors.
Casper of Cincinnati was honored as the 2016 recipient of the Ohio Association of Realtors’ Vincent T. Aveni Lifetime Achievement Award.
The presentation of the award was made at the association’s Board of Directors meeting during the 106th OAR Annual Convention, Sept. 19-21, in Cleveland. The Vincent T. Aveni Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes OAR past presidents who provide exemplary service to the organization.
Casper, who served as OAR president in 1988, remains actively involved in the organization, serving as a member and chair of numerous organizational committees at the local, state and national level.
He discussed the 2017 Realtors convention that will be held Sept. 24-27 in Cincinnati. According to Casper, this will be the first joint convention between the Ohio and Kentucky Realtors. The event’s official opening will be held on the Newport Southbank Bridge (Purple People Bridge) between Newport and Cincinnati.

• In other business, the Realtors discussed the county’s new conveyance standards and boundary survey requirements that went into effect in 2015.
The Highland County Bar Association has formed a task force to address concerns that have arisen from the new survey requirements. The task force plans to work with the Board of Realtors, area surveyors and local banks. Attorneys Larry Hayes, Sue Davis and Kathryn Hapner are on the task force.
Last year, Highland County Engineer Dean Otworth and Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley spoke to the Highland County Board of Realtors regarding the updated conveyance standards. • Highland County Board of Realtors member Diane Uhl updated the board on the Rocky Fork Lake Alliance and the RFL-ASAP project.
Last month, the county was awarded a grant of $843,498 from the U.S. Department of Justice for the Rocky Fork Lake Area Safety and Advancement Plan to use over a two-year period for improvements to the lake area. An additional deputy from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office will be based at the lake and a part-time sanitation officer will be employed.
Other priorities for the grant include:
• The development of a land bank, which will be working through Highland County Community Action Organization.
• Transportation from the Rocky Fork area to Hillsboro and Greenfield, through FRS Transportation.
• Targeted enforcement areas as identified by Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera.
• The implementation of a 411 anonymous crime tip line.
• Economic development, by creating a contract person to focus on recreation and tourism to create jobs.
