An area farm will be recognized this weekend with a bicentennial celebration.

Beatty Farms, located on Bonner Road outside of Greenfield (in Fayette County), is turning 200 in 2024, and the family is celebrating with an open house Saturday, July 13 from 2:30-5:30 p.m.

The farm previously received Ohio Historic Farm designation for being an Ohio Century Farm, having been established in 1824. According to the Greenfield Historical Society, "The farm was given to John Beatty for his services during the American Revolution."

“We don’t just own the farm,” Alanna Beatty Eikenberry told The Highland County Press. “My dad and older brother still farm it for a living. My brother is the sixth generation to farm Beatty Farms.”

According to the Ohio Department of Agriculture, “The Ohio Department of Agriculture recognizes the many social, economic and historic contributions made by Ohio's founding farm families. Ohio's Historic Family Farms program was developed as a way to honor these families for their enduring legacy to our state. There are over 2,000 registered Ohio Historic Family Farms, with at least two farms in each county.”

In addition to celebrating two centuries of the farm, the open house will also involve recognition of the Beatty family.

“On Sunday, the First Presbyterian Church is also rededicating the stained glass windows that my great-great grandfather had installed in 1903,” Eikenberry said. “There is some great history to share about the Beattys, including an Underground Railroad story involving Alexander Beatty that is amazing. We hope to pay tribute to the whole family tree on Saturday.”
