Adena volunteers, Women's Board donate to foundation

Big-box retailers might learn a thing or two about sales from volunteers at Adena Health System’s gift shop.
Despite the temporary closure of the north entrance to the medical center, near where the Sugarloaf Gift Shop is located, the shop still generated enough money to make a whopping $150,000 donation to the Adena Health Foundation.
“Our employees are wonderful shoppers,” said Cindy Drummond, Director of Volunteer Services. “And the use of payroll deduction for purchases is a great benefit.”
The fact that the shop is manned by sales-savvy volunteers also speaks highly of those who donate their time in the gift shop and throughout Adena, she added.
A volunteer recognition dinner was held Tuesday (May 11) to honor the roughly 300 people who volunteer time each week at Adena. It was during that event, attended by more than 200, that this year’s Foundation donation was announced.
While the gift shop is a great success, Drummond said, volunteers also conduct sales events elsewhere in the medical center, as well as in the community.
With the opening of the Northeast Expansion this month, which will provide easier access to the shop, Drummond is hoping next year’s sales will be even better.
The donation will be used to purchase equipment for a number of departments, including cardiac rehab, dermatology, lab and rehab, as well as for volunteer scholarships.
Also at the dinner, Women’s Board President Ruhama Proctor presented $21,000 toward their $85,000 pledge to the PACCAR Medical Education Center, plus a $3,000 donation to the Volunteer Scholarship Fund.
The board, whose members also serve as volunteers, typically make their annual awards at the volunteer recognition dinner. The group’s major fundraising events are the Charity Ball in December and the Spring Plant Sale in May.[[In-content Ad]]
