AAA7’s Carla Simpson named Volunteer Rookie of the Year

Carla Simpson, Community Services Specialist at the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7), was recently honored by the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) as “Volunteer Rookie of the Year” for her outstanding support of Medicare beneficiaries throughout the AAA7’s 10-county district. Simpson was nominated for the recognition by Amber Cupp, Community Liaison with OSHIIP.
OSHIIP is the official State program within the Ohio Department of Insurance that provides free, unbiased Medicare education and one-on-one health insurance counseling to Ohioans. OSHIIP volunteers are trained community counselors who offer objective assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, as well as their families and caregivers. OSHIIP helps train AAA7 employees with knowledge of the Medicare system in order to best help beneficiaries who call to the AAA7 for assistance.
Following OSHIIP training in July 2025, Cupp recognized Simpson’s strong determination and commitment to learning the complexities of Medicare in order to better assist those in need. “Carla is a fantastic volunteer, and I cannot thank her enough for her dedication to helping Medicare beneficiaries throughout AAA7’s district,” said Cupp. “The success of OSHIIP would not be possible without our incredible volunteers.”
Simpson, a resident of Sardinia in Brown County, Ohio, joined AAA7 in January 2020 as a Specialized Recovery Services Recovery Manager and was later promoted to Team Lead. During her time with the Agency, she has also served as a Benefits Navigator in the Resource Center. She recently transitioned to the Community Services Division, where she currently serves as a Caregiver Support Case Manager.
Your local Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. provides services on a non-discriminatory basis in ten counties in Southern Ohio including Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton. These services are available to help older adults and those with disabilities live safely and independently in their residence of choice through services paid for by Medicare, Medicaid, other federal and state resources, as well as private pay. The AAA7’s Resource Center is also available to anyone in the community looking for information or assistance with long-term care options. Available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, the Resource Center is a valuable contact for learning more about options and what programs and services are available for assistance.

Here, individuals can speak directly with a specially-trained Agency staff member who will assist them with information surrounding the programs and services that are available to best serve their needs. The Agency also offers a consultation at no cost for those who are interested in learning more.
