Unintended consequences of socialist policy

To the editor:
This is an open letter to Senator Sherrod Brown,
Introduction: I have looked at your 111th Congressional voting record and have one question: Why do you want a Socialist government?
Background: Socialism is the government control and ownership of economic enterprises. 1) You have voted for government ownership and control of the auto industry and control of many banks under the euphemistic term of stimulus; and 2) You have voted for government control of our health industry.
Problems: I have the following concerns about socialism:
1) It has historically resulted in a failed economy where it has been practiced.
2) It has historically diminished the freedom of its citizens by needing to use coercion to enforce planning compliance.
3) It has historically greatly increased the cost of government, resulting in unsustainable deficits.
4) It has historically degraded existing health care quality where practiced.
5) It has historically diminished self-initiative by increasing dependence upon the government.
6) It has historically led in its advanced stages to dictatorial forms of government.
Recommendation: The economist F.A. Hayek has made an extensive study of socialism regarding why it appeals to many government officials and
what its actual effects are. He recorded his findings in his scholarly book "The Road to Serfdom," written in 1944. I urge you to read this book to enhance your understanding of the unintended consequences of socialist policy.
Summary: I want our nation to be The Land of Opportunity, not The Land of Victimhood.
Sincerely,
Ray Erickson
