Senator silent on AEP rate hikes

To the editor:

I phoned Highland’s Ohio Sen. Dave Daniels’ office to learn what he was doing to help Highland Countians through this P.U.C.O./AEP mess and, unfortunately, was not surprised by what I learned.

Sen. Daniels’ aide, “Luke,” answered and the instant he heard me say “AEP,” he replied that that situation “is not a legislative matter,” it is a matter for P.U.C.O.

He politely gave me the complaint phone number at P.U.C.O.

I asked him if Sen. Daniels had had any meetings with P.U.C.O. or anyone else about it, or was he planning to. Luke said Sen. Daniels had not had any conversation with him about it and no meetings were scheduled as far as he knew. I asked again if Sen. Daniels had ANY intention of getting involved and Luke said “We will monitor the situation."

I thanked Luke, and called and registered a complaint with P.U.C.O., including the comment that I thought P.U.C.O.’s failure to even consider the impact of their decisions was unacceptable from such highly-paid public employees and that they should be punished.

The complete lack of effort and the “we’ll monitor it” blarney is exactly the same response I’ve received when I’ve called Dave Daniels’ office on at least four other issues in the passed few years and I simply cannot accept that from someone who has been paid well for years to represent Highlanders.

Making it even worse is the fact that Sen. Daniels was the chairman of the Ohio Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee! How can we excuse him for not getting involved?

Our awesome local Chamber of Commerce President, Katy Farber, is working very, very hard to go to bat for Highlanders. Our County Commissioners and State Representative and even Hillsboro’s new Mayor are also in the battle against P.U.C.O.’s blatant callousness and irresponsibility.

I don’t doubt they will also hear from Ms. Betty Bishop and my money is on her in ANY conflict.

But Dave Daniels, who owes Highlanders a lot, is staying on the sidelines. Did I mention that one of Sen. Dave Daniels’ largest campaign contributors was First Energy?

Other people will have to settle with AEP and P.U.C.O. But Highlanders, Look at Dave Daniels’ actual non-performance and please tell me WHY do you keep sending him to Columbus to live off the public payroll? Please tell me!

Sincerely,
Jim Moore
Jackson Twp.
