Remembering our veterans

To the editor:

November the 11th is a day when we recognize and honor all of our Armed Service veterans.

It was first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson on November 11, 1919, a date which coincided with Armistice Day celebrations that ended World War I exactly one year earlier.

In the years that have followed, Americans have gathered together in their local communities to honor those brave men and women who served in uniform with events, parades, and other moments of recognition.

Here at the USO of Central and Southern Ohio, Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on the commitment and sacrifice made by those who have served, and it reminds of us of the important work that our local organization and volunteers do each and every day in support of our current men and women who are protecting our freedoms both at home and abroad.

We hope that today's Veterans Day affords you a chance to say thank you to someone who may have served, or is serving now.

Sincerely,

Dan Meeks
Executive Director
USO of Central and Southern Ohio
