Reasons to support the ADAMH board levy on March 6

To the editor:
At a time when it is easy to just say no to any tax levy in Highland County, there are some things to consider when you vote on March 6 concerning the ADAMH Board Levy.
Today's economic conditions are tough on everyone and we all feel helpless at times to change the situation. Imagine that you need help for a mental health condition such as severe depression or a substance abuse problem and you are unable to receive the help you need.
The Paint Valley Alcohol Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADAMH) Services board provides funding for treatment and prevention services to the residents Highland County and they are asking for our help to help those in need.
March 6, 2012 is Election Day and on the ballot is a replacement levy for the Paint Valley ADAMH board. We can help by voting for this levy and in turn this can provide support and help for all of us.
This levy is asking for approval at a cost of only 8 cents per day or $2.59 per month on a tax valuation of $100,000.
This translates to less than a cup of coffee per week. For this investment, the residents of Highland County will continue to receive substance abuse treatment for those who have no payer source, prevention services for our children, mental health crisis services, and the funding of Big Brothers Big Sisters services.
We are not talking about funding unimportant activities, but needed community services that keep people out of jails and out of hospitals that cost us much more than treatment and intervention programs such as I mentioned above.
I hope you will join me in supporting the ADAMH Board levy on March 6.
Sincerely,
