Politicians avoid topic of security when promoting high-speed rail

To the editor:
Highland Countians already know of my complete animosity toward the Strickland-Obama Lunatic Express – the insane $850 million (to start) so-called “Hi-speed” Choo-Choo those two malignant Democrats want to make us pay for. And many of the very good reasons to say “NO” to that folly have already appeared many times in the newspapers. But there is one topic connected to their railroad scheme (scam, actually) that they have been very, very careful to NOT talk about.
Much of Europe, Asia and the UK use a lot more rail transportation (people) than we do in the U.S. All of them are struggling with providing security against terrorists (and not doing so well). Virtually every consulting firm that helps governments deal with terrorist threats knows that passenger rail service is always a serious weak spot – a prime target for thugs seeking easy means and high body counts. With rail passengers being more or less “captive audiences,” they are tailor-made targets for terrorists and hostage-takers with explosives and guns.
India, for one, has admitted neither their police nor their military can provide satisfactory security – so they are training their citizens to (theoretically) step in and combat terrorists if they appear. Russia and Great Britain both spend outrageous sums to try to keep their trains safe – or somewhat safe. And their citizens know the same “shake down” that we Americans get at our airports and WILL get at train stations.
And then there is the cost for that “security” – the cost Strickland and Obama don’t want you to ask about. Washington, D.C. has implemented “advanced security” for their Metro – at a start-up cost – start up – of nearly $10 million. For the Metro, in ONE CITY!
In Germany, for starters, the people are going into the streets to protest the building of more railroads. Do you see why Strickland and Obama haven’t wanted this topic to be brought up? Do you see those two know-it-all Democrats they want us to pretend it’s still 1950 and the World is our huckleberry?
Neither Strickland, Obama, Sherrod Brown nor their selfish union backers in Cleveland, et al, care if you or your family have to ride to work carrying a gun and wearing a flak-jacket. They don’t care if your family is one of many families amid the wreckage of a bombed train in three feet of snow out somewhere in a rural county.
To be really accurate… they don’t give a you-know-what.
Sincerely,
Jim Moore
