Homeless Shelter proud to have helped 350 people in 2011

To the editor:
As I look at the Highland County Homeless Shelter and reflect upon this year, I have to smile with satisfaction at the many accomplishments and successes we have achieved in our community.
My only wish is that we could do more.
I did not know what to expect being the executive director here at the shelter. I am proud of the fact that we have helped close to 350 individuals and families this past year. We are also very proud of and so appreciate our many donors who help us to keep our doors open.
The shelter receives approximately half of its operating funds from grants; however, the other half must come from the community. The shelter could not continue to operate without the generous donations received from our citizens, organizations, churches and other groups in our community.
As a non-profit, these times are hard. We are here to help, aid and provide safe, temporary housing to those who have fallen on those hard times for one reason or another.
My associate director, Greg Hawkins, and I have found our niche. We love this shelter and what we can do for this community.
Again, we thank you all for your generous support and look forward to a happy and healthy 2012.
As always, please visit our website at www.hcshelter.org for more information or call us at 393-0634.
Sincerely,
Bill Fife, Executive Director
