Disbelief, disappointment in mayor's race

To the editor:

After reading the results of the Hillsboro mayoral race, I find myself in disbelief and tremendously disappointed.

The only significant newspaper article I ever remember reading about the winning candidate was the report of the alleged activities against his female friend and the subsequent quotes he made to her to justify his actions. I was appalled at the stance he took with her when he referenced his relationship with certain honorable officials within Highland County.

He reasoned to her that his recent contacts with them would make him untouchable. He stated that he would use his "position" with them to her detriment, should she choose to pursue her statements of his alleged harassment and drug use.

I was so grateful for the subsequent reply by these very officials that re-assured the public of their unbiased view of the so-called position he had claimed to have with them.

I asked myself: Who is this person?

I read my newspapers every day, and the only other thing I can recall reading about him was of him either buying up downtown buildings or him touting what a celebrity he is.

When I read about the recent debates between him and his opponent, Mr. John Levo, I was impressed with Mr. Levo's long list of financial, political and public service experience.

Given that the mayor-elect has absolutely none of these whatsoever, I thought the decision for mayor of Hillsboro would be a no-brainer. I was sadly mistaken.

I am in absolute shock how he managed to get himself elected. It seems to me to be a sad joke on the city of Hillsboro.

In a recent newspaper article, he is publicly asking the people to "guide" him on how to get started, what to do and to let him know what they want.

Should he not already be aware of these things before he ran for mayor? If I didn't find it so absurd, I would be outraged.

Good luck to you, because you are surely going to need it.

And Heaven help the city of Hillsboro.

Sincerely,
Judy Keltz
