Board of Elections, poll workers deserve thanks

To the editor:
This past Tuesday, Nov. 8, elections were held in our county and across America.
Most of us have no concept of how this happens.
The Board of Elections in this county employs three full-time staff and several volunteers. However, when there is a pending election, folks seem to come out of the woodwork!
Many long hours are spent updating voter status and rounding up the workers. At any given election, there are 150 to 160 team players who engage in setting up and tearing down equipment, ensuring the election will roll on.
Year after year, these civic-minded citizens dedicate time, energy, and able bodies and engage in a small portion of the American way.
All of us take for granted that this privilege just happens, but the Board of Elections works year round and is busy keeping the system moving. The election process is far from perfect; however, elections give democracy a voice and that fact stands alone.
Thank you to all who stand up to be counted even if the choices don't always reflect personal preference.
I'm proud to be a small part of this action and to assist in any manner needed to make the elections happen. There is an 80-percent chance there will be two primary elections in 2012 and one presidential election, if you move or change your address stop at the Board of Elections and make those changes before March, June or November.
Take a moment to appreciate freedom and those who help you have a voice.
Sincerely,
Linda K. Griffith
