Lady Mustangs earn 2023 Southern Hills Athletic Conference girls soccer title

The Southern Hills Athletic Conference girls soccer championship is staying in Dodsonville, as the Lady Mustangs finished their SHAC season Wednesday evening, defeating the Ripley Lady Blue Jays.

The Lady Mustangs won by a 3-0 score over Ripley at Lynchburg-Clay High School on Wednesday (Oct. 11), and did so by taking 29 total shots in the win.

Two LC players scored goals for the team, those being Jade Massey with two and Sophia Michael with one, her first goal of the season.

This season, Massey has collected 72 points with 32 goals and eight assists. For her four-year career, Massey currently has 73 goals and 182 points.

Assists were credited to Addie Downing, Lainie Lunsford and Allie Waits.

Caitlyn Collins was at goal for LCHS in the shutout win.

The girls program has a no-loss streak of 92 consecutive games (85-0-7) in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, dating back to 2010 — occurring in parts of the past 14 seasons — as they were 5-0-1 in the SHAC this season.

The Lady Mustangs have won eight SHAC titles in the past nine seasons, and now they are back-to-back champions after winning the title last year with a 7-0-0 mark.

At goal for Ripley was Callie Fultz with 23 saves in the loss.

This season in SHAC games, the Lady Mustangs have outscored their conference opponents (six games), 28-2 with four shutouts.

Scores this season for SHAC games are: at Eastern (1-1), vs. Fayetteville (6-0), vs. North Adams (1-0), at Peebles (12-0), at Fairfield (5-1) and vs. Ripley (3-0).

For the entire 2023 season, LCHS is 11-0-4 overall, as their last loss was in the Division III state semifinals last year. LC’s last regular-season loss was on Aug. 17, 2022 (the second game of last season).

LCHS is 26-1-5 overall in the past two regular seasons.

Next for Lynchburg-Clay is a Division III SE District Sectional Final game on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at home against Chesapeake at 6 p.m. LC enters the game the No. 1 overall seed in the SE District.

Last year in the postseason the Lady Mustangs were 5-1, as they began their tournament run with a 9-0 win over Chesapeake on Oct. 19, 2022 in the sectional finals.
