Indians battle close but fall to Cavaliers

The Hillsboro Indians came close to a Frontier Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night, but their seventh-inning rally fell just short with the host Chillicothe Cavaliers defeating the visiting Indians, 9-8.

Hillsboro began the FAC game with three runs crossing the late in the top of the first, as they held a 3-1 lead at the conclusion of the first inning. HHS added a run in the top of the second, but Chillicothe responded with four runs in the bottom of the second for a 5-4 lead over HHS.

CHS added another run in the bottom of the fourth, only to see the Indians score two runs in the top of the fifth, leaving the score tied at 6-6.

The Cavaliers answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-6 lead, and though the Indians rallied in the top of the seventh with two runs, they fell just short of tying the score in the loss to the Cavs.

CHS finished with 13 hits and four errors, while the Indians had eight hits and three errors.

Korbin Adams ended with a double, two runs, one RBI and a HBP. Teammate Bryce Parsons was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI.

Nic Burns ended the FAC game 0-for-3 with one run, two walks and three steals. Brayden Hunter collected a run and two steals. Ovid Wilson scored a run, two walks and was hit by a pitch.

Travis Ross was 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and was hit by a pitch. Evan Fender forced a walk, while Thompson scored a run and had a walk. Jackson Cornele finished 1-for-1, while Carson Scott went 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk.

Thompson pitched five innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks in the no-decision. He threw 108 pitches, 81 for strikes, as he faced 31 batters for nine strikeouts.

Hunter pitched one inning, allowing two runs (no earned runs) on two hits and one walk. Hunter finished with a strikeout as he threw. 25 pitches, 15 for strikes, facing seven batters.

The loss drops HHS to 1-7 overall this season.
