Hillsboro and McClain were well represented at the Division II Central/East/Southeast District Championship Friday, Feb. 16 at the Ohio University Aquatic Center, with McClain senior Elana Unger qualifying for the Swimming & Diving State Tournament for a third consecutive season.

Trailing by 20 points entering the fourth quarter of their Division II SE District Sectional Final game against the No. 6 seeded Jackson Ironladies, the No. 11 seeded Hillsboro Lady Indians had 32 points combined in the first three quarters, but HHS finished the game with 63 points following a 31-point fourth quarter.

The Hillsboro Indians had one of their own named the 2023-24 Frontier Athletic Conference Player of the Year, as it was announced on Saturday afternoon that junior Tate Davis was named the POY by the coaches of the conference. 

The African American Awareness Research Council’s Black History Month program scheduled for Feb. 17 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene has been canceled due to weather.

In a regular monthly meeting that lasted only 13 minutes in open session, Hillsboro City Council members heard the first reading of an ordinance pertaining to amusement device penalties and approved two payment-related resolutions.

The 2023-24 All-Frontier Athletic Conference team was announced this week for girls basketball.

Most of the Highland County Land Reutilization Corporation (land bank) board’s monthly meeting Thursday, Feb. 15 revolved around bids. The HCLRC held a bid opening for Building Demolition and Site Revitalization parcels; accepted quotes for asbestos abatement on several of those properties; and agreed to sell three parcels to the highest bidders.

The Ohio Auditor’s Office rereleased the City of Hillsboro’s 2022 audit Thursday, in which a finding for recovery was reduced from $25,357 to $20,054.

Hillsboro Library patrons are invited to “be the very best like no one ever was” with special activities during Pokémon Week, from Feb. 26 through March 2.

On Jan. 26, the Hillsboro FFA chapter rewarded the members who sold a minimum of $350 of fruit for their annual fundraiser. 

The Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be holding their regular scheduled monthly meeting Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, Dec. 14, the Hillsboro FFA Chapter hosted a new event called a Day of Giving at Hillsboro High School.
