LEESBURG — Playing four matches in a span of five days this week, the Fairfield Lady Lions volleyball team earned four consecutive wins, including three in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play.

In that span of contests, Fairfield started off with a win Monday against Glenwood New Boston, followed with a Wednesday victory at Peebles. From there, it was a Thursday night win against Whiteoak, a match where senior Remi Moon earned the school’s career kills milestone at 1,027 and counting.

Then, on Friday night, the Lady Lions gained their biggest win of the week as they traveled to and defeated the North Adams Lady Green Devils in SHAC action, handing NAHS their first conference loss of the season.

At home on Monday, the Lady Lions won in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-12, 25-09 and 25-14 to gain the non-conference win.

There were 20 aces in the victory for the Lady Lions, as May led the team with eight, plus there were four by Stahlhut, three from Moon, two by Cannon, two from junior Hadley Weddle and one by Bales.

The Lady Lions also collected 44 digs against Glenwood New Boston with the team lead being 12 by Moon, followed by 11 from May, eight by Ayers, six by Stahlhut, four from Bales, two by Cannon and one dig from Barrera.

FHS also finished with six blocks with the leader being Jones with three. Cannon followed with two, and Moon had one.

Next was a Sept. 30 win for Fairfield over Peebles at PHS in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.

In the SHAC win over Peebles, Fairfield won by set scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-23.

Then came Wednesday when Fairfield defeated the visiting Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in three sets at 25-12, 25-06 and 25-18.

“We have a long week, but coming into this game I wanted to focus on our energy and to give 110-percent effort, and every single girl from the bench to the court did that,” FHS head coach Kamryn Daulton said. “That was the biggest reason we were so dominant tonight.

“It was also good to get all the girls in. They all put hard work into practice, but not a lot of them see a whole lot of game time sometimes, so it was good to see them reap the benefit from that.”

Daulton spoke about her players.

“Brynlee Barrera is a freshman who plays JV, but she hit outside for us on varsity,” Daulton said. “She has a strong arm and is always energetic. Laurel McCoy is also another freshman, and she’s a right side hitter on varsity (she’s in the middle on JV), but she brings a lot of energy to the team, and we love that.

“Corinne Tolle, this was her first game playing varsity, and with her first varsity minutes, she did great.”

Against WHS, the Lady Lions in set one led early by a 4-0 score, then they eventually built a lead of 9-2 before Whiteoak called a timeout. Following a kill by Moon, and later an ace by Cannon, it was a 12-2 lead for FHS.

The first set continued with the Lady Lions leading the rest of the way with FHS scoring the final five points of the set for the 25-12 win.

In the second set FHS, again, started with a strong lead at 11-0 with serves by Weddle, while points were obtained by Moon and Cannon, and there was also an ace by Weddle.

“Remi Moon is always a standout attacker and she can slam the ball to the ground no matter what, and she gets to the ball on defense as well,” Daulton said.

“I am so proud of Remi and her accomplishments this season. She had a thousand kills and digs recently, and she hit the school ace record too. Tonight she had the school record in career kills (1,027).”

Then it was serves by Cannon that helped the Lady Lions take a 20-3 lead over the Lady Wildcats. Eventually Fairfield gained the 25-point total needed to win the set, as they won by a 25-5 score as Fairfield’s Tolle gained the set-winning kill for a 2-0 FHS lead.

Set three was closer, but Fairfield led from start to finish, including a 5-0 lead to begin the set. WHS got to within a 9-8 score, but Fairfield kept their lead and won by a 25-18 score.

“Everybody stepped up and gave their all,” Daulton said. “One of the girls who stepped up the most was Hadley Weddle. She is a junior, and she has some nice serves and aces in a row, which was amazing. She has good coverage for us as well.”

Then came the match of the week as Fairfield won in five sets over the previously SHAC-undefeated North Adams Lady Green Devils on Friday, Oct. 2 for the conference victory.

Fairfield in the win won sets three (25-7), four (25-23) and five (15-10). North Adams won set one at 25-22 and set two at 25-15.

The match saw the Lady Lions have 46 kills, 46 assists, 17 aces, 69 digs and five blocks.
