The McClain girls varsity soccer team only played one half due to an injured player but still won convincingly, 9-0 over Frontier Athletic Conference foe Washington on Thursday night in Greenfield.

The second half was forfeited by the Washington coach because of not having enough girls to continue the game after the late first-half injury.

“We had a good first half, and I thought our girls played really hard getting a lot of good assists and goals,” said McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom. “Paisley Pryor scored four goals, and Lyndi Cockerill got three to lead us in scoring, and we had five different players get assists.”

Pryor scored the first goal at the 32:30 mark from an assist by Larah Henson and scored again 20 seconds later to put the Lady Tigers up early 2-0. Freshman Lyndi Cockerill scored an unassisted goal just seconds later followed by another goal by freshman Sydnee Walker.

After an own goal put the Lady Tigers up 5-0, Pryor tallied her third one of the night, giving her the hat-trick.

Cockerill got her second goal with 15 minutes left in the opening half from a nice assist by Baylee Hickok.

McClain finished off the scoring in the half on Pryor’s fourth goal and Cockerill’s third, which gave her a hat trick for the match.

“This game was good practice for us leading into our next game at Miami Trace on Saturday,” Bergstrom said. “I was hoping to play the second half tonight so we could work on some fundamentals of the game, but you have to understand why they didn’t. We didn’t want to have anyone else getting hurt.”

The Lady Tigers are now 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the FAC after losing 9-1 to Miami Trace on Saturday, Oct. 3. McClain returns home Tuesday, Oct. 6 to host Jackson, before hosting Hillsboro on Thursday, Oct. 8 for parents night festivities. Game time for Tuesday is 6:30 and Thursday is 5 p.m.
