Young animal lover raises money for local animal shelter

For the past six months, local 8-year-old Jaiden Hughes has been raising money for the Highland County Humane Society Animal Shelter. This month, Jaiden is celebrating the sale of over 50 copies of her book "Respect The Dogs!", which she wrote and illustrated when she was 7.

County, community wish Rosalind Newman the best in retirement, after 30 years of service
     "If there was a picture on the wall of what a county employee should be like, it would be a photo of Rosalind."
     Those were the words of Highland County Commissioner Gary Heaton about Highland County Clerk Rosalind Marie Newman after she was celebrated for her years of public service in Highland County.

For the second consecutive year, Highland District Hospital’s Home Health Services has been recognized as among the HomeCare Elite, a list of the top-performing home health care providers in the United States. This annual review identifies the top 25 percent of agencies, ranked by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance. Highland District Hospital’s Home Health Services received top 25 percent recognition.

Sen. Brown, federal energy official visit Piketon plant to discuss cleanup efforts, new jobs
In the past year, more than $268 million in new federal funds - expected to create more than 1,000 jobs and accelerate cleanup efforts by more than 20 years - have been awarded to the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, Ohio. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Dr. Inés Triay, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management, visited the Piketon plant to give an update on how new federal funds are creating jobs and expediting the cleanup process. Brown also discussed possibilities for community reuse of the site following the completion of the cleanup effort, and presented a Cold War Patriot award to Bobby Graff, President of USW Local 689.

Lynchburg plans for 17th Annual Village Christmas
Lynchburg is busy preparing for its annual Village Christmas. This marks the 17th year for the event, which is held the second weekend in December. Many village residents open their homes to the public to offer such diverse items as secret family recipe baked goods to arts and craft items made within the village.

Lady 'Cats Classic Schedule
The 2009 Paint Valley Lady 'Cats Classic will be held on Friday, Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28 at Paint Valley High School with 24 teams playing in the event.
