"If there was a picture on the wall of what a county employee should be like, it would be a photo of Rosalind."
Those were the words of Highland County Commissioner Gary Heaton about Highland County Clerk Rosalind Marie Newman after she was celebrated for her years of public service in Highland County.
Newman, was honored with a clock, proclamation and a special recognition for her 30 years working for Highland County, Monday afternoon with a card shower.
"There have been so many good memories over the years," Newman said. "I have loved working with all the people I¹ve had the opportunity to work with."
Newman began her career with the county in 1979, and on Sept. 1, 1986 became the Deputy Clerk for the Board of County Commissioners. Before she was a clerk for the commissioners, Newman was a Job Training Partnership Act Program Monitor, through the Manpower Program.
She was appointed the Clerk of Board of Commissioners in 2001, taking the spot on Jan. 2, 2002. She was also named the Clerk of Planning Commission on the same date in 2002.
Current Highland County Commissioners, Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Heaton all said Newman would be missed, and spoke of how helpful she was when they first started as commissioners.
