The first lady of Ohio, Frances Strickland, visited Highland County Thursday and toured Rocky Fork State Park, apart of a tour for proposed development of the land.

“Caring. Close to Home” is a fitting tagline for Highland District Hospital. It seems just as fitting for the two volunteers who have chalked up 1,000 hours in the Diabetes and You Center.

Sunday, Dec. 6 is the date for the Greenfield Historical Society's annual Christmas Tour of Homes. The tour runs from 12-5 p.m. Five homeowners started early in July to prepare for this year's event. On the tour this year are the homes of Peter Quance and Julie McCray, 226 Mirabeau St.; Gene and Rosemary Kropfelder, 418 South St.; Jim and Madeline Grandy, 120 South St.; Bruce and Sue Ann Baird, 11885 State Rte. 138; and Steve and Mary Jane Parker, 13936 Titus Rd. (the corner of Titus and Rte. 138). Three homes are located in Greenfield and two are just west of town.

For the third year in a row, the Lynchburg-Clay Kindergarten collected items for the Highland County Animal Shelter.  The students also learned about animals and what they need to be taken care of.  Congratulations to Mrs. Roberts' class, as they donated the most items.

Arica Melson, a 7th grade student at Fairfield Middle School, has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a local competition sponsored by the Leesburg Lions Club.
