Southern State Community College will present guest speaker Dona Grant on the topic of homestead gardening 6 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Learning Resources Center on the college’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. The event is free and open to the public.

A South Salem man who was initially charged with allegedly assaulting three police officers in August has been indicted on a first-degree felony charge of assault with a gun specification.
 Justin Stubbs, 32, was arrested Aug. 28 after he allegedly fled from a vehicle, in which he was a passenger, during a traffic stop on Willow Street in Hillsboro.
