Sen. Portman named ranking Republican of Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities

Portman was also named to the Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support and the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces yesterday. Both of these assignments put Portman in an ideal position to help advocate for the men and women the United States sends into harm’s way and pursue the interests of the numerous defense assets in Ohio.

SSCC considers another tuition hike
SSCC board member Paul Hall reported on behalf of the finance committee to the college board of trustees during their meeting Wednesday, March 9 at SSCC’s Fayette Campus that, “There will be a tuition increase. We know that. It will probably be less than most (other colleges). We will have a recommendation at the April board meeting. We need to get this out there so people know it’s coming.”

CVB discusses executive director position, outstanding bills
The board of trustees of the Highland County Convention and Visitor's Bureau met Thursday afternoon to discuss the hiring of a new executive director. However, not enough board officers were in attendance for an executive session to be called.
David Wesley Pence
David Wesley Pence, 66, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
 He was born Sept. 12, 1944 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Wesley Ralph and Sarah Rogers Pence.
 Pence had practiced law in Hillsboro for 37 years, starting a partnership with his father, W. Ralph Pence.
One arrested in Greenfield drug bust; charges against others pending
The Greenfield Police Department executed two search warrants last week, resulting the seizing of suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia.
 One man was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and additional charges are pending against other individuals.

Blue Lions win SCOL; fall to Urbana in playoffs
In the playoff game, Rogan took the very first play from scrimmage 55 yards straight through the middle of the WCH defense. The score was 8-0 almost before the Blue Lions got warmed up. Urbana totally dominated this game, winning by a score of 41-13. Washington’s fine season had come to an abrupt end.
