    An armed robbery that occurred around noon Saturday, Jan. 23 at Country
    Corner Market is under investigation. At approximately 11:59 a.m. Saturday, a male subject entered the store, show a weapon and demanded money, the Highland County Sheriff's Office reported. The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

  • Hillsboro board selects Rick Earley as new superintendent
    The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education has announced that Hillsboro High School Principal Rick Earley will be the district superintendent effective Aug. 1.
    "It's very humbling with all the responsibilities of the job," Earley said. "I look forward to the opportunity and I appreciate the board's support."

  • Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Volunteer Training Program Feb. 10
    A training program for people willing to donate their time and talents to the Hospice of Hope program will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10 at Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley office in Mt.     Local model Alison Gingerich has earned the opportunity of a lifetime, modeling new designs on “Project Runway,” the number one cable reality program of 2009, and competing on its sister program “Models of the Runway.”
        Alison Gingerich, the daughter of Norman and Susan Gingerich, was raised in Leesburg, along with her brother, Robin. Gingerich’s father, a retired teacher of the Greenfield school district, and her mother, who holds a doctorate in early childhood education, homeschooled Gingerich, who was involved in a number of extracurricular activities in the area.

    An initial request for a .4-mill tax levy for the Ohio State University/Highland County Extension was put on hold this week, after Extension Director Rose Fisher Merkowitz told commissioners  the levy wouldn’t raise sufficient funds.
  • Adena Women's Heart Smart Screenings Set for February 12
    In observance of February as Heart Month and to assist women in the community with knowing their heart risks and learning ways to have a healthier heart, Adena Medical Center will host a Women’s Heart Smart Screening on Friday, February 12, at the Adena Sleep Center, located in the Adena Health Pavilion on the campus of Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe.  Screenings are available at a charge of $99 to women ages 40 - 60; however, space is limited and appointments are required and taken on a first-call basis.
